This section describes the interior restoration of the crew compartment. I have separate pages for each of the following areas:
- Floor
- Walls
- Ceiling
- Doors
For more information on the partition wall separating the crew compartment from the seating compartment, see the page “Project – Partition Walls”.
For more information on the wood stove that goes into this area, see the page “Project – Wood Stove”.
This is the first interior project of the car I tackled, and for the most part it is still the one I am working on. The theory is to try and complete this section first, for two reasons. The first reason is that at least something would look more or less finished, and the public can have an idea how the car looked. The second reason is to give me an idea how to restore some of the work on the car. If the technique works here, then I can replicate it for the rest of the interior.
The first thing I did was to work on the walls, mainly the right wall where the stove goes, and then the left wall. I did all but the finishing work before moving on to repair the floor. This was all done by the end of 2012. In 2013 I put up the new left partition wall and the finishing wood for the left side (the right side will remain unfinished). I then primer painted the whole thing.
I also managed over both years to get some ceiling work done. I was able to sand all the steel and prime it. I was also able to start strapping the ceiling. In 2014 I would like to finish this area.
